US: 4 Killed, Several Injured After Multiple Stabbings In Illinois

Four people were killed and several others were injured when a man went on a stabbing rampage yesterday across multiple locations in United States' northern Illinois.

A man went on a stabbing rampage across multiple locations in Illinois, United States on Wednesday (March 27), killing four people and injuring seven others, news agency AP reported citing Rockford police. The police in an X post said that a man attacked several people and stabbed multiple individuals in the areas of Cleveland, Holmes, and Eggleston. The alleged suspect is in custody.

A 22-year-old man, whose identity has not been revealed by the authorities, is in police custody and being questioned, the Associated Press reported citing Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd. According to the report, one of the wounded people is still in critical condition.

"My heart goes out to the families right now that are suffering a loss," Redd was quoted as saying.

She stated that the Rockford Police Department received a medical call at 1:14 pm, which was followed by additional calls for police and paramedics.

“We don’t believe there’s any other suspects that are on the run or at large at this particular time,” Redd told media. “Right now, we don’t have a clear motive as to what caused this individual to commit such a heinous crime.”

According to Redd, not all of the victims found at various addresses in the city had stab wounds, and none had been shot.

According to reports, Rockford Police initially reported five people had been injured. Cori Hilliard, a public information officer for the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office, confirmed to The Associated Press Wednesday evening that two more people were injured.

The AP report said that three people died at the scenes. The fourth died at a hospital. Police later identified those victims as a 15-year-old girl, a 63-year-old woman, a 49-year-old man and a 22-year-old man. Their names were not released.

She said residents in the area have been asked to review their home surveillance camera footage for anything related to the attacks.

Reports say Rockford’s population is about 150,000. The incident comes days after a teenage employee of a Walmart in Rockford was stabbed and killed inside the store.
