Russia Claims To Down 337 Ukraine Drones After 'Massive' Attack Ahead Of Kyiv-Washington Talks

Russia’s Defense Ministry, the highest number of drones, 126, were shot down over the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine and includes areas controlled by Kyiv's forces.

The Russian military said on Tuesday that the air defense shot down 337 Ukrainian drones overnight. This attack, which is likely the biggest Ukrainian drone attack on Russia in three years, occurred over 10 Russian regions.

According to the Associated Press (AP), at least one person was killed in the attack, and several others were injured. This came when a Ukrainian delegation was preparing to meet with America’s top diplomat in Saudi Arabia and discuss efforts to end the three-year-long war with Russia.

According to a statement by Russia’s Defense Ministry, the highest number of drones, 126, were shot down over the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine and includes areas controlled by Kyiv's forces. Additionally, 91 drones were intercepted over the Moscow region. Other affected regions mentioned in the statement include Belgorod, Bryansk, and Voronezh near the Ukraine border, as well as Kaluga, Lipetsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Oryol, and Ryazan deeper inside Russia.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said over 70 drones targeted the Russian capital and were shot down as they were flying toward it, the report added.

One person killed in drone attack

The Moscow region governor, Andrei Vorobyov, said a person was killed and nine were injured in the attack. Adding to that, seven apartments were damaged in the area. A number of cars caught fire in a parking lot at a different location and damaged two other residential buildings in the region, AP reported.

One more person was wounded on a highway in the Lipetsk region, Governor Igor Artamonov said, as per AP.

Flights have been temporarily restricted at six airports, including Domodedovo, Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky near Moscow, as well as airports in the Yaroslavl and Nizhny Novgorod regions. Similarly, train traffic through the Domodedovo railway station in the Moscow region has also been briefly halted, as per AP.
