Russia-Ukraine Second Round Of Talks To Be Held Today Near Poland-Belarus Border, Demands Remain Same

Russia and Ukraine said Wednesday that the countries were prepared to carry out negotiations for the second time since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last week.

New Delhi: Russia and Ukraine said Wednesday that the countries were prepared to carry out negotiations for the second time since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last week.

Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, said that a Ukrainian delegation is on its way to hold talks with Russia on the Poland-Belarus border, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

According to an AP report, a Russian official has said that the talks were set to start Wednesday, but were postponed until the following day.

The countries are expected to hold the talks in Belarus. However, there appears to be little ground between the two sides.

The talks were announced the same day the United Nations General Assembly condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and asked Russia to withdraw its troops from its neighbour.

The Office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Wednesday that Ukraine’s delegation was on its way to the second round of talks with Russia since the invasion began last week. However, the President’s office did not say when the delegation was expected to arrive, according to the AP report.

The Ukrainians are expected to arrive Thursday for the talks in the Brest region of Belarus, Vladimir Medinsky, an aide of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the head of Russia's delegation, told reporters.

Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday that his country was ready for talks to resume. However, he noted that Russia’s demands had not changed. He also said that he would not accept any ultimatums, according to the report.
