Poland Blames ‘Russian-Made Missile’ After 2 Killed Near Ukraine Border, Russia Denies

Meanhwile Russia refuted the claim describing them as "a deliberate provocation aimed at escalating situation", reported Reuters.

New Delhi: A ‘Russian-made missile’ fell in the eastern part of Poland killing two people in the blast, claimed Warsaw on Wednesday, reported news agency Associated Press. The development marks the first time since the invasion of Ukraine that Russia launched an attack on a country that is the member of North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

As per the report citing a statement from the Polish Foreign Ministry, the missile was identified as being made in Russia. But President Andrzej Duda was more cautious about its origin, saying that officials did not know for sure who fired it or where it was made. He said it was “most probably” Russian-made but that is still being verified, the report added.

“We are acting with calm,” Duda said. “This is a difficult situation.”

Meanhwile Russia refuted the claim describing them as "a deliberate provocation aimed at escalating situation" and that "no strikes on targets near Ukrainian-Polish border were made by Russian means of destruction," Reuters reported.

Addressing the situation, United States President Joe Biden tweeted that he spoke with President Duda.

"I spoke with President Andrzej Duda of Poland to express my deep condolences for the loss of life in Eastern Poland and offer our full support for Poland's investigation of the explosion," he said.

"We will remain in close touch to determine appropriate next steps as it proceeds," Biden added.

NATO Secretary-General, Jens Stoltenberg has also called an emergency meeting later for the day of the alliance’s envoys to discuss the events close to the Ukrainian border in Poland.

Following the developement, G7 leaders convened a meeting during the G20 Summit in Indonesia which has disturbed the schedule of the summit. Due to the G7 meet and increased engagements of the world leaders is likely to affect PM Modi's schedule of bilateral meetings. As per ABP News sources. Out of 8 pre-scheduled bilateral meetings many meetings have now become uncertain.
