US Plane Crash: A plane has crashed into the Potomac River in Washington DC in the US. The number of people on board the commercial jet is not yet clear. The plane crashed after a mid-air collision with a helicopter on approach to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Rescue boats are scanning the Potomac River.
American Airlines Flight 5342 collided with a Black Hawk helicopter near DC airport, FAA said. The video of the crash shows the two aircraft colliding with a bright flash of fire.

American Airlines said the flight was operated by PSA Airlines with a CRJ-700.
Kansas Senator Jerry Morgan said the passenger plane was arriving from Kansas at Washington DC Airport. "I am in contact with authorities. Please join me in praying for all involved," he said in a post on X.
Learning that a plane inbound from Kansas was involved in a crash at DCA.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, according to the Washington DC Fire Services. As a result of the crash, all flights at the airport were temporarily suspended while emergency teams responded to the incident, the airport confirmed via an X update.
All takeoffs and landings have been halted at DCA. Emergency personnel are responding to an aircraft incident on the airfield. The terminal remains open. Will update.

The District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department reported shortly after 9 PM that the aircraft had crashed into the river near the airport. Fire department boats were quickly deployed to the scene to assist with the situation.
