'Israel Must Be Stripped Of UN Membership': Palestinian President In UNGA Urges Nations To Stop Arming Israel

Mahmud Abbas said that the US continued to provide diplomatic cover and weapons to Israel for the war in Gaza despite the death toll crossing 41,000 according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas on Thursday said that Israel must be stripped of United Nations membership for failing to accept a two-state resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict and allowing the return of Palestinian refugees to their homes.

Speaking in the United Nations General Assembly, Mahmoud Abbas called on the international community to stop sending weapons to Israel in order to stop the bloodshed in the West Bank and Gaza.

"Israel, which refuses to implement United Nations resolutions, does not deserve to be a member of this international organization,” he said.

He said that the the Palestinian authorities are going to submit an application to the UNGA on the issue.

"We will not leave, we will not leave, we will not leave. Palestine is our homeland, it is the land of our fathers and our grandfathers. It will remain ours. If anyone were to leave, it would be the occupying usurpers," the Palestinian President said in his address.

"Stop killing children and women. Stop the genocide. Stop sending weapons to Israel. This madness cannot continue," he said.

Abbas said that the US continued to provide diplomatic cover and weapons to Israel for the war in Gaza despite the death toll crossing 41,000 according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. The US is Israel’s closest ally and has been supplying the nation with billions of dollars of aid and military material.

He further called for a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza strip adding that he wouldn't allow a single centimeter of Gaza to be taken.

The speech of the Palestinian President comes even as at least 36 Palestinians were killed in Gaza by Israeli strikes in the past 24 hours. The fatalities included 15 who were killed in the latest attack on a school sheltering war-displaced civilians in northern Jabalia.

At least 41,534 people have been killed and 96,092 injured in Gaza, while in Israel, the toll is at 1,139, with more than 200 people were taken captive.
