Pakistan Opposition To Sit On Dharna At National Assembly Until No-Trust Vote Is Held Against PM Imran Khan

“Everyone has seen what happened in Pakistan today. President, Speaker can easily see that the Opposition had a majority against Imran Khan in the no-confidence motion,” Bilawal said.

New Delhi: Pakistan's opposition has resolved to hold a dharna in the National Assembly until the no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Imran Khan is held, news agency ANI reported.

Following the dismissal of the no-confidence motion against Khan by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated on Sunday that the Opposition members have decided to protest the "unconstitutional" move in the National Assembly and have decided not to leave the floor until their Constitutional rights are granted to them.

Taking to Twitter, Bilawal Bhutto said, “Government has violated the Constitution by not allowing voting on the no-confidence motion. United Opposition is not leaving Parliament. Our lawyers are on their way to Supreme Court. We call on all institutions to protect, uphold, defend and implement the Constitution of Pakistan."

Suri, who presided over today's session, dismissed the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan's administration as a violation of Article 5 of the Constitution.

“Everyone has seen what happened in Pakistan today. President, Speaker can easily see that the Opposition had a majority against Imran Khan in the no-confidence motion,” Bilawal was quoted by ANI in its report.

Slamming the Deputy Speaker, he said, “He has done unconstitutional thing at the last moment. He broke the Constitution of Pakistan. The no-trust vote had to take place today as per the Constitution.”

Bilawal announced the Opposition's plan to hold a dharna, saying, "We are also in negotiations with our attorneys, and we will go to the Supreme Court so that the vote may take place today itself." The House cannot be dissolved since the Opposition has a majority."

He also slammed Imran Khan, telling him to quit acting like a kid and running away from battles, and urged Pakistanis to support the Constitution and democratic ideals, adding, "do not let a puppet or a non-democratic person rob your rights."

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Pakistan President Arif Alvi dissolved the National Assembly on the recommendation of Prime Minister Imran Khan, with elections set to take place within the next 90 days.

This follows Imran Khan's unexpected announcement in his televised speech to the nation that he had asked President Arif Alvi to dissolve all Assemblies.

The Supreme Court, on the other hand, has taken suo motu notice of Alvi's dissolution of the National Assembly on Sunday.
