Pakistan Plane Crash: Over 100 Feared Dead As Airbus A320 Plane Crashes Into Houses Near Karachi
As per the early reports, nearly 100 passengers and eight crew members on board are feared to be dead as the plane crashed in the houses of the city.
Karachi: In a highly tragic incident, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Lahore to Karachi crashed near Karachi Airport on Friday afternoon, May 22.
The PIA aircraft which crashed was an A320 carrying close to 100 people. The aircraft crashed near a residential colony near Karachi airport. As per the early reports, nearly 100 passengers and eight crew members on board are feared to be dead as the plane crashed in the houses of the city.
The fate of the people was not immediately known. The CAA sources said that its communication with the plane was cut off one minute before its landing. Several houses have been damaged in the area where the aircraft crashed.
A statement by the Pakistan Army's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that Army Quick Reaction Force and Sindh Pakistan Rangers reached the spot for carrying out rescue and relief operations alongside civil administration.
From the clips and early pictures shared on social media, the incident appears to be a mega disaster as smoke billowing from the site of the crash can be seen. Meanwhile, ambulances and rescue teams have been rushed into service to help residents.
An IANS report quoted a senior official of the Civil Aviation Authority who confirmed the incident stating that "It is too early to say anything. We are collecting details of passengers the rescue operation was underway.”
Meanwhile, in wake of the major mishap, Sindh's Ministry of Health and Population Welfare has declared emergency in all major hospitals of Karachi.
