'Put Aside Disrespectful Tone': Iran Condemns Trump's Remark On Supreme Leader

Trump retorted he "saved" Khamenei from an "ugly" death and questioned his victory declaration, halting sanctions relief efforts due to Khamenei's "anger."

Iran on Saturday condemned the remarks by US President Donald Trump on the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian foreign minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi cautioned Trump against using "disrespectful tone" against the Supreme Leader if he wants to resume nuclear talks.

"If President Trump is genuine about wanting a deal, he should put aside the disrespectful and unacceptable tone towards Iran's Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, and stop hurting his millions of heartfelt followers," said the minister in a post on X.

Trump's comment on Khamenei came after the Supreme Leader said the US President "exaggerated events in unusual ways" while adding that he needed that "exaggeration". Khamenei said this during his first speech after the announcement of a ceasefire.

He also claimed that "the Islamic Republic won" and said that this has dealt “a severe slap to the face of America”.

'Saved Him From Ugly Death'

Araghchi's word of caution for Trump came after the US President said he "saved" Khamenei "from a very ugly and "ignominious" death". “I SAVED HIM FROM A VERY UGLY AND IGNOMINIOUS DEATH,” he said in a post on Truth Social.

Trump questioned Khamenei's declaration of victory in the war against Israel and asked why the Supreme Leader had “blatantly and foolishly” said that he won the war. "…when he knows his statement is a lie, it is not so. As a man of great faith, he is not supposed to lie,” Trump said.

Trump further said in his post that he had been working on the possible removal of sanctions against Iran during the last few days. However, he added that he had dropped all work on sanction relief after being "hit" by Khamenei's statement of "anger, hatred, and disgust."
