US Extends Condolences Over Iranian Prez Raisi's Demise, Xi Jinping Remembers Him As 'Good Friend' To China

Ebrahim Raisi Death: The US, UN, and China offered condolences, with the US expressing support for the Iranian people's human rights aspirations.

Ebrahim Raisi Death: Iran was plunged into mourning as news spread of the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, and other high-ranking officials. The U.S. Department of State, through spokesperson Matthew Miller, extended official condolences, emphasising solidarity with the Iranian people's quest for human rights and freedoms.

"The United States expresses its official condolences for the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, and other members of their delegation in a helicopter crash in northwest Iran. As Iran selects a new president, we reaffirm our support for the Iranian people and their struggle for human rights and fundamental freedoms," stated Miller.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also offered his condolences. "The Secretary-General expresses his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran," Stephane Dujarric, Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, said in a statement, according to news agency PTI.

Chinese President Xi Jinping Remembers Ebrahim Raisi As 'Good Friend' To China

Chinese President Xi Jinping joined in mourning, recognising Raisi as a "good friend" to China and lauding his efforts in strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. In a message to Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber, President Xi conveyed deep condolences and sympathies on behalf of the Chinese government and people.

"Since President Raisi took office, he made important contributions to maintaining Iran's security and stability and promoting national development and prosperity. Raisi also made positive efforts to consolidate and deepen the China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership," expressed President Xi, as quoted by PTI.

The crash, which occurred in a foggy, mountainous region of northwest Iran, claimed the lives of President Raisi, aged 63, Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian, aged 60, and several other officials.
