Canada: Telangana Student Dies While Drowning In Lake In Toronto On His Birthday

A video showed Praneeth jumping into the lake. Another video, the man recorded a selfie with his friends on a motorboat in the lake.

A student from India, who went to Canada to pursue his studies, drowned while swimming with his friends in a lake in Toronto.

The deceased, identified as Praneeth, was a native of Meerpet in Ranga Reddy district in Telangana and had finished his studies in Canada. The family has been informed about the tragedy.

The student died while he was out with his friends to celebrate his birthday. The victim's family has requested the government to bring his body back to India as early as possible.

He had moved to Canada in 2019 for studies while his elder brother migrated in 2022. He was reportedly looking for a job in the country.

A video showed Praneeth jumping into the lake. In another video, the man recorded a selfie with his friends on a motorboat in the lake.

He had reportedly went for a holiday with friends and his brother to a cottage near Clear Lake in Canada. The next day they went for swimming. While everyone returned, Praneeth was found missing.

“Both along with other friends visited the lake to celebrate the birthday of Praneeth on Saturday. On Sunday, they went swimming. While everyone returned, the younger one ( Praneeth) did not,” the grieving father told reporters.

After receiving information, rescue teams arrived at the spot and the body was fished out.

The news reached the family here on Monday through friends of their sons, father said, requesting the state and central governments to help bring the body to India.

Earlier in June, a 28-year-old Indian-origin man was shot dead in Canada's Surrey in what was believed to be a targeted attack. The victim, Yuvraj Goyal, was found dead by police officers after reports of a shooting at his home on the morning of June 7. Four men were arrested after the murder.
