Wanted Driver In Stolen Truck Rams 13 Vehicles Before Arrest In California—On Cam

The wanted man was rushing through city streets and freeways, with speeds over 160 kmph, recklessly weaving through traffic and ramming into vehicles in a desperate escape attempt.

A fugitive driving a stolen truck caused heavy destruction in California on Friday, after crashing into 13 vehicles while recklessly attempting to escape police. The high-speed pursuit ended after he lost control and crashed into a store parking lot, then tried to flee on foot before being tackled and arrested by police.

According to a report by NDTV, police reported that the chase started around 2:41 pm Friday near the Harbour Freeway and Adams Street in downtown Los Angeles. The wanted man was rushing through city streets and freeways, with speeds over 160 kmph, recklessly weaving through traffic and ramming into vehicles in a desperate escape attempt.

Footage showed the suspect sideswiping cars, plowing through others in his way, and narrowly missing a bus at a busy Pico Rivera intersection. He also jumped curbs, drove on sidewalks, and used the freeway shoulder while speeding through Santa Fe Springs, Norwalk, and Long Beach.

One Police Officer Injured

The chase came to a dramatic end when the driver ran a red light and crashed into multiple cars, veering off the road and slamming into a paint store’s metal railing on Termino Avenue. After stepping out of the wrecked truck, he attempted to walk away but was swiftly tackled by nearly a dozen officers in Long Beach.

The man whose truck was stolen, identified as Ricardo Colindes, was making a delivery when the fugitive took off with his vehicle. "At the beginning, I thought somebody in the shop was making a joke. I was really mad because all my stuff was there. I had been taking care of that truck for a long time, trying to keep it in shape. It's a company truck, but I love that truck," Colindes told CBS News.

Police arrested the suspect at 3:45 pm, minutes after the pursuit ended. One officer sustained injuries during the takedown and was hospitalised, though their condition remains unknown, according to The New York Post. Authorities have not yet confirmed if there were any civilian injuries, and charges against the suspect are pending.
