Bird Strike Or Fog: What Led To Kazakhstan Plane Crash That Killed At Least 30
The report quoting the Russian civil aviation authority said that the initial investigation showed that the pilot diverted to Kazakhstan’s Aktau after a bird strike on the aircraft led to “an emergency situation on board”.
An Azerbaijan Airlines jet with 67 people onboard crashed on Wednesday in Aktau city of Western Kazakhstan.
Kazakh authorities said that at least 32 people have survived the crash of the Embraer 190 near the city of Aktau. More than 30 people have been reported dead in the incident.
The plane was flying from the Azerbaijani capital Baku on the western shore of the Caspian to the Russian city of Grozny in the North Caucasus.
A total of 29 survivors, including two children, have been hospitalised, while medical workers said that four bodies have been recovered.

The crash happened after the Embraer 190 aircraft made an emergency landing around 3 kilometers from the city.
How The Crash Happened?
The Azerbaijani airliner was carrying 42 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russian nationals, 6 Kazakhstani and 3 Kyrgyzstani citizens.
A report in Russian news agency RIA Novosti said that a bird collision might have played a role in the emergency which led to the crash.

However, a report in BBC said that the aircraft caught fire as it attempted to make an emergency landing near Aktau. The report quoting the airline sources said that the plane was diverted due to fog while it was enroute to Grozny.

Several videos surfaced online showed the aircraft making a steep descent before smashing into the ground in a fireball.
Other videos showed part of its fuselage ripped away from the wings and the rest of the aircraft, lying upside in the grass. Some video footage also showed survivors crawling out of the wreckage, with visible injuries.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who was travelling to Russia, returned to Azerbaijan on hearing news of the crash. Aliyev expressed his condolences to the families of the victims in a statement on social media. “It is with deep sadness that I express my condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to those injured,” he said.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to Aliyev on the phone and expressed his condolences, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. Both Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have launched investigations into the accident.
