6 Killed In Mass Shooting At Food Market In Thailand

A mass shooting in Bangkok, Thailand, resulted in at least six fatalities on Monday.

At least six people were killed in a mass shooting in Thailand on Monday, according to reports. Among the victims, four have been identified as security guards at a popular fresh food market in Bangkok.

According to news agency Reuters, six people, including the gunman, have died after a shooting at a busy marketplace in Bangkok. Authorities said the attacker opened fire before taking his own life.

Shooting at Or Tor Kor Market

The incident occurred at Or Tor Kor Market, located near Chatuchak market, a major tourist hotspot in the Thai capital.

"Police are investigating the motive. So far it's a mass shooting," said Worapat Sukthai, deputy police chief of Bangkok's Bang Sue district, in a statement to AFP. Officials also confirmed that the shooter died by suicide.

Possible Link to Border Clashes

The deputy police chief further noted that authorities are examining "any possible link" between the mass shooting and the ongoing border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia.

Thailand Witnesses Alarming Surge in Gun Violence

In recent years, Thailand has witnessed a worrying rise in gun-related violence, with several high-profile incidents shaking the nation.

The most recent case occurred in May 2025, when a 33-year-old man went on a shooting spree in Ban Don Subdistrict, U Thong District, killing three people—two women and a man. The attack took place just 50 metres from Wat Yang Sawang Arom School, forcing authorities to urgently evacuate all students from the premises.

In October 2023, a 14-year-old boy was arrested after opening fire at Siam Paragon Mall in Bangkok, killing two people and injuring several others.

One of the deadliest incidents took place in October 2022, when a former member of the Royal Thai Police carried out a horrific massacre at a child care centre in northeast Thailand, killing around 36 people, including 24 children. The attacker later killed his wife, stepson, and himself, leaving the nation in shock.
