Jharkhand Ropeway Accident: Man Falls To Death From Chopper During Rescue Operation | Video

The accident took place on Sunday evening due to a technical fault in the trolley of the ropeway on Trikut mountain under Mohanpur block of Deoghar.

New Delhi: During the rescue operation on Trikut mountain of Jharkhand’s Deoghar district, an unfortunate incident took place as a man slipped from the army helicopter and fell down and lost his life. 

Additional Director General of Police, R K Mallick confirmed that one person fell from a chopper in the course of rescue and was rushed to hospital, where he died, as reported by news agency PTI.

An attempt was being made to drag the man inside the helicopter with the help of a rope. But after reaching close to the helicopter, the man lost his hand and fell into the ditch below. The rescue operation has been stopped after this incident. Now the operation will be resumed again tomorrow morning as dozen people are still trapped.

The rescue operation is going on for the last 24 hours on Trikut mountain. So far 32 people have been evacuated. A total of 48 people were trapped in 8 trolleys hanging in the air. They are being evacuated safely through an army helicopter. NDRF, Indian Army, Indian Air Force and ITBP personnel are involved in the rescue operation.

Along with the rescue operation, food and water are being delivered to the people trapped in the trolleys through drones. People being taken out after being rescued are being admitted to Deoghar Sadar Hospital.

The accident took place on Sunday evening due to a technical fault in the trolley of the ropeway on Trikut mountain under Mohanpur block of Deoghar. 

Trikutachal Mahadev Temple and the ashram of Rishi Dayanand are situated on Trikuta hill. Every year thousands of people pay a visit to the temple through the ropeway. The Trikut ropeway, according to the Jharkhand tourism department, is India's highest vertical ropeway. It is around 766-meter long.
