Weather Update: Heavy Rain Lashes Parts Of Mumbai, IMD Issues Orange Alert. Downpour Also Likely In These States

As heavy rain lashed parts of Mumbai, the IMD said that heavy downpours are likely to continue in the city over the next three days.

Weather Update: Heay rainfall lashed several areas of Maharashtra's capital city Mumbai on Friday morning which led to waterlogging in parts of Navi Mumbai. Meanwhile, the India Meterological Department (IMD), in its latest bulletin, said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Coastal Karnataka from July 12-15.

“Isolated very heavy rainfall also likely over Konkan & Goa during 11th-15th; ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal Karnataka during 12th-15th; Kerala during 13th-15th; South Interior Karnataka on 14th & 15th July,” the weather office said. 

The weather department has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, signalling heavy to very heavy downpour in isolated areas. Similar alerts have also been issued for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra’s Konkan region.

Incessant rains with intermittent spells of moderate to heavy showers since Friday morning have slowed down public transport services and traffic in Mumbai.

According to news agency PTI, several parts of the country’s financial capital received more than 15 mm of rainfall between 7 am and 8 am. Due to heavy rains, low-lying areas like Sion saw waterlogging prompting the authorities to divert road traffic.

The IMD has also said that isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand today and will prevail over the next two days. 

Delhi Likely To See Light Rain

The minimum temperature in the city settled at 29.6 degrees Celsius on Friday, with the weather department predicting moderate rain. Humidity at 8.30 am was 76 per cent.

The weather department has predicted a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds for the day. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 36 degrees Celsius.
