Adityanath Alleges SP Link With 2008 Ahmedabad Blast, Akhilesh Says 'Our Baba CM Knows Nothing'

Adityanath put up this allegation addressing a public rally in Pilibhit and then Lucknow. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has responded to the claim.

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday addressed a rally in Lucknow where he claimed that Samajwadi Party's agenda does not include development.

He also linked the opposition party with the 2008 Ahmedabad serial bomb blast case.

Speaking in Lucknow, CM Yogi Adityanath said: "Yesterday, a court pronounced death sentences to 38 out of 49 convicts in the 2008 Ahmedabad serial bomb blast case, of which a few terrorists had a link to UP, as well. Out of them, the father of one terrorist from Azamgarh is working as an SP propagator".

"Development is not on their (Samajwadi Party) agenda... those who shot at Ram bhakts and put locks on Ram temples could have never constructed Ram temple in Ayodhya," he further added, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Earlier in the day, Adityanath put up this allegation addressing a public rally in Pilibhit, where he said: "You can imagine... Nayi hawa hai, wahi SaPa (SP) hai, SP ka haath, aatankwadiyon ke saath (there's a new wave, but the SP is the same; hands of the SP are with terrorists). This has been proven once again."

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has responded to the claim, saying: "Humaare Baba Mukhyamantri kamaal ke hain (Our baba CM is amazing)". "Neither did he know anything before, nor does he know anything right now," he retorted.

The former UP chief minister also said that the election is about the state's concerns: "The UP election is for the rights of farmers, employment of youth, and development of the state."

Union Minister Anurag Thakur had also reiterated Yogi Adityanath's allegation, as he elaborated: "I would like to tell you that Ahmedabad's serial blast is linked to the Samajwadi Party and the 49 people who have been convicted, one of the masterminds is Mohammed Saif, the son of Shahbaad Ahmed who is a Samajwadi Party leader."

The BJP leader accused Akhilesh Yadav of giving protection to terrorists.

The allegations come ahead of the third phase of Uttar Pradesh elections, voting for which is set to take place on Sunday.
