Uttar Pradesh Records Highest One-Day Jump In Covid Cases, Tally Crosses 1.8 Lakh Mark; CM To Review Pandemic

Lucknow reported the highest number of fresh COVID-19 cases at 663, followed by 256 in Prayagraj, 253 in Kanpur Nagar, 226 in Gorakhpur, and 221 in Varanasi, among other districts.

Lucknow: In what comes as a highest single-day jump in number of Coronavirus cases in Uttar Pradesh, the state has recorded 4,800 fresh infections on Saturday taking the total tally to 1,18,038. As per state government's health bulletin, Covid-19 death toll has climbed to 2,028 with 47 more casualties in last one day. ALSO READ | PM Modi Inaugurates Rashtriya Swachhata Kendra; Says Swachh Bharat Mission Important In Fighting Covid-19 While speaking to reporters, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said that at present there are 46,177 active cases in the state and 69,833 people have been discharged from hospitals after recovery. Of the latest casualties, five were reported from Kanpur Nagar; four from Bareilly; three each from Lucknow, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Azamgarh; two each from Jhansi, Meerut, Ballia, Deoria, Shahjahanpur and Sant Kabir Nagar, among other districts. ALSO READ | Air India Plane Crash Updates: Black Box Components Of Crashed AIE Flight Recovered; Probe Underway Awasthi also informed that more than 1.02 lakh tests were conducted in the state on Friday, taking the total count to over 29 lakh. He said 15,678 people are in home isolation, 1,352 in private hospitals, and 178 in semi-paid facilities. Earlier, Medical Education Minister Suresh Khanna had appealed to people of the state to ensure proper social and physical distancing, and wear masks while venturing out. The government has been going all out to check the disease and ensure people's safety. It has managed to minimise damage as states smaller than Uttar Pradesh have reported a higher number of cases and mortality rate, he had said. ALSO READ | India Records More Than 60K Covid-19 Cases For Second Consecutive Day, 24-Hour Death Toll Nears 1000 Mark Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has embarked on a three-district tour of western Uttar Pradesh to review the Covid-19 situation in view of the increasing number of cases of the Coronavirus. As per reports, Adityanath will review the pandemic situation in Bareilly, Meerut and Saharanpur divisions, and visit Bareilly, Saharanpur and Noida.  The chief minister took a review meeting on the entire situation in the state on Friday before leaving for his tour. According to the official spokesman, the chief minister will be hold a meeting with officials in Bareilly on Friday evening, and inaugurate a Covid-19 care hospital in Noida on Saturday. He will then proceed to Saharanpur for a meeting.
