Share Market Today: Sensex Bleeds Over 1,000 Points, Nifty Tanks More Than 1 Per Cent
The Sensex platform was painted in red. Titan, ICICI Bank, and Bajaj Finance remained the only exceptions in green. On the other hand, the major laggards included Tata Steel, Kotak Bank, and M&M.
The stock markets began the trading week on a muted note as indices slipped in the morning hours of the session. The BSE Sensex declined more than 100 points to reach 79,092.80 as of 9:53 AM, while the NSE Nifty50 fell a little over 60 points to touch 23,944.10 in the day.
Around 11:22 AM, both indices tanked more than 1 per cent in the session. The Sensex plunged close to 800 points and traded under 78,450, while the Nifty tanked more than 250 points to fall below 23,750 in the session.
The 30-share Sensex platform was painted in red. Titan, ICICI Bank, and Bajaj Finance remained the only exceptions in green. On the other hand, the major laggards for the session so far included Tata Steel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, PowerGrid, Adani Ports, and M&M.
This sentiment in the market was attributed to fresh foreign fund outflows and the cautionary stance of the investors ahead of the earnings season beginning this week.
The broader markets traded entirely in red, with the Nifty Microcap 250 leading the losses and trading at 2.44 per cent down. The Nifty Next 50 followed and stood in red at 2.29 per cent.
Sector-wise, the Nifty Metal and Realty indices dominated in red and tanked 2.50 per cent and 2.27 per cent respectively.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded Indian equities worth Rs 4,227.25 crore on Friday, according to exchange data. In Asian markets, Seoul traded on a high note, while Tokyo,, Shanghai, and Hong Kong remained in red. The US markets ended in positive territory on Friday. The global oil benchmark Brent crude slipped 0.21 per cent to hit $76.35 a barrel.
Sensex Plummets Over 1,100 Points
As the session progressed, the indices continued to bleed. Around 12:04 PM, the Sensex crashed and fell more than 1.3 per cent. The index plummeted over 1,076.74 points to fall below 78,150. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty50 continued to decline and tanked over 300 points and 1.35 per cent to reach 23,679.50.
