HMPV Virus First Case in India: Bengaluru Reports Infection in 8-Month-Old Baby
India has reported its first case of the HMPV (Human Metapneumovirus) virus in Bengaluru, where an eight-month-old baby was found to be infected. The case, confirmed through laboratory tests at the Baptist Hospital, has raised concerns among health officials. While the Karnataka Health Department has informed the central government, further testing by state labs is yet to take place.IHMPV is a respiratory virus that affects people of all ages, but the elderly and young children are more vulnerable. The virus spreads through close contact with infected individuals and can lead to symptoms such as runny nose, sore throat, headache, fatigue, cough, fever, or chills.Experts, including homeopath Dr. Dwivedi, have warned that the virus could lead to serious complications such as lung infections, breathing difficulties, wheezing, and asthma-related issues. In severe cases, chest infections in children can be life-threatening.Health officials advise maintaining hygiene practices such as wearing masks, washing hands regularly, covering the mouth while sneezing or coughing, and sanitizing hands afterward to reduce the risk of infection.
