Udaipur Tailor Murder | Accused Paid Rs 5,000 Extra To Get 26/11 Mumbai Attack Date As Number Plate: Report

The police team is collecting further details of the bike’s purchase and how the accused took the special number.

New Delhi: The ongoing investigation into 40-year-old tailor Kanhaiya Lal’s brutal killing in Rajasthan’s Udaipur has revealed that the registration number of accused Riyaz Attari’s bike had a connection with the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) reported.

Attari’s bike RJ 27 AS 2611 was bought by him to remember the terror attack in Maharashtra capital Mumbai on November 26, 2011, the news agency reported sources as saying.

The police team is collecting further details of the bike’s purchase and how the accused took the special number.

The bike number 2611 was reportedly taken after depositing an additional Rs 5,000 in 2013.

The accused Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, as per the police,, had fled after brutally hacking the tailor to death earlier on June 28.

Press Trust of India (PTI) reported officials as saying that Akhtari had paid Rs 1000 to obtain the number of his choice for the motorcycle which he had bought earlier in March 2013.

“The registration number of the bike on which they were fleeing was RJ 27 AS 2611. The motorcycle was handed over to the SIT for further action,” the news agency quoted the SHO of Bhim Police Station as saying.

Meanwhile, Udaipur RTO Prabhu Lal Bamniya said the motorcycle was issued in Akhtari’s name.

He added that a fee of Rs 1,000 was paid for securing the number in March 2013.

Earlier on November 26, 2008, 10 Pakistani terrorists arrived at Mumbai by sea route and opened fire indiscriminately, killing 166 people.

Ajmal Kasab, the only terrorist captured alive, was hanged four years later on November 21, 2012.

The police will also probe the motive of the accused behind the bike number linked to the date of Mumbai attack.

The tailor was hacked to death by two men in broad daylight inside his shop in Udaipur’s Bhootmahal area earlier on Tuesday.

The tailor had earlier published a social media post supporting now suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma, who had invited widespread wrath for her remarks against the Prophet.

Udaipur Police had earlier come under strong criticism for not providing security to the murdered tailor.

Earlier on Thursday night, two accused arrested in connection with this case from Bhim in Rajsamand district were brought to Ajmer’s high-security jail.

The duo, who identified themselves as Riyaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, had sparked outrage in the country after posting a video on social media boasting about the “beheading”.

Earlier on Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the investigation of the tailor’s brutal murder.

The local markets in the area were shut following the murder as the traders demanded justice for the victim.
