Kanhaiya Lal Murder In Udaipur: 32 Police Officers Transferred

The SPs of 10 districts, including Udaipur, have been transferred in the list issued by the department late on Thursday night.

New Delhi: A total of 32 police officers, including the Inspector General (IG) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Udaipur, have been transferred, news agency Asian News International (ANI) reported. This comes after Kanhaiya Lal, a 40-year-old tailor, was hacked to death by two men in broad daylight inside his shop in Udaipur’s Bhootmahal area earlier on Tuesday.

The tailor had earlier published a social media post supporting now suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma, who had invited widespread wrath for her remarks against the Prophet. Udaipur Police had earlier come under strong criticism for not providing security to the murdered tailor.

The SPs of 10 districts, including Udaipur, have been transferred in the list issued by the department late on Thursday night.

Vikas Kumar, who earlier served as the Superintendent of Ajmer, has replaced Manoj Kumar in Udaipur.

Prafulla Kumar, who was earlier the Inspector General of the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS), has been posted in Udaipur.

IG Udaipur Hingaljadan was also removed and he has now been appointed as the IG Civil Rights.

Earlier on Thursday night, two accused arrested in connection with this case from Bhim in Rajsamand district were brought to Ajmer’s high-security jail.

The duo, who identified themselves as Riyaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, had sparked outrage in the country after posting a video on social media boasting about the “beheading”.

They also threatened Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s life as well.

Rajasthan Police had on Wednesday said that the main accused in the tailor’s killing were in touch with Pakistan-based organisation Dawat-e-Islami, adding one of them also went to Pakistan’s Karachi in 2014 to meet the members of the organisation.

Rajasthan Director General of Police (DGP) M.L. Lather said that the police have also taken three other people into its custody with whom the main accused were in contact.

Earlier on Wednesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday took over the investigation of the tailor’s brutal murder.

The local markets in the area were shut following the murder as the traders demanded justice for the victim.

Internet services were also suspended in Udaipur and a curfew has been imposed.
