Population Control Law Coming Soon In India, Says Union Minister Prahlad Patel

During an event in Chhattisgarh, Union Minister for food processing Prahlad Singh Patel said that a law on population control will be brought soon.

New Delhi: Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel on Tuesday said that law for population control will be brought in the country soon. He made the statement at the 'Garib Kalyan Sammelan' held at ICAR-National Institute of Biotic Stress Management in Raipur. Patel made the remarks on being asked by reporters about a law on population control. According to PTI, Patel said, "It will be brought soon, don't worry. When such strong and big decisions have been taken then the rest too (will be taken)".

Population control has been debated for years in Parliament. The two-child policy has been tabled around 35 times since Independence.

Recently, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had said that with awareness campaigns the government has achieved population control and that there was no need for a law, according to a report by The New Indian Express.

Prahlad Singh Attacks Congress Government

During the Sammelan, Union Minister for food processing Prahlad Singh Patel also attacked the ruling Congress in Chhattisgarh for failing to achieve targets under some Central schemes, particularly under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

He pointed to the abysmal rate of target achieved by the state government under the Jal Jeevan Mission as compared to the national average.

"The state government has been able to achieve only 23 percent of work under Jal Jeevan Mission while the national average of target achievement under it is 50 percent. There is no problem with water sources in the state but the problem is management. Similarly, the state could not complete the target under the PM Awas scheme," said Patel, according to PTI.

As the Modi government completes 8 years, Patel highlighted all achievements of the government and that the basic motto of the Central government is service and welfare to the poor.

Earlier, interacting with beneficiaries of various Central schemes during Gariba Kalyan Sammelan, Patel highlighted various achievements of the Narendra Modi government in the last eight years and said 'service, good governance and welfare of poor' is the basic mantra of the Central government.
