PM Modi's 46th Mann Ki Baat; Here are the main highlights

PM lauded Indian achiever Hima Das who won gold medal in 400 metre race in Junior U-20 World Athletics Championship. He also lauded Ekta Bhayan who won gold and bronze in world’s Para Athletics Grand Prix 2018.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the nation in the 46th episode of his 'Mann Ki Baat' programme at 11 am. Modi spoke at length on various topics. Here are the major takeaways from his address:
  • He started his speech by talking about the recent weather and how many parts of the country are battered by heavy rains. He said that humans have chosen this way of locking horns with nature for development leading to disastrous consequences. He urged the nation to become nature’s caretakers then only nature will maintain its balance.
  • Citing example of Thailand cave rescue, PM Modi said that the patience, determination and courage shown by the rescuers and the young football team when they were stuck in the treacherously flooded cave was exemplary, offering the world a lot to learn.
  • He paid homage to veteran poet and lyricist Gopladas Neeraj who passed away recently. He said “Neeraj ji always exuded hope, faith, resolve confidence. We can draw a lot of inspiration from him.”
  • Citing various examples of students who embraced success despite unfavourable financial situation, he said that these students proved that with determination and hard work any milestone can be achieved. He congratulated all these students on their achievements. He gave example of Asharam Chowdhary from Madhya Pradesh belonging to an extremely poor family who cleared exam in the first attempt to get admission in MBBS at Jodhpur AIIMS. His father is a rag-picker.
  • He lauded IT professionals from Raebareli- Yogesh Sahu and Rajneesh Bajpai who developed the Smart Gaon App.
  • He paid homage to Lokmanya Tilak on his birthday that was on July 23 and ahead of his death anniversary that is on August 1. He also paid tribute to Chandrashekhar Azad.
  • He exhorted people to celebrate Ganesh Utsav in an eco-friendly way.

He had also recalled Guru Nanak and said his teachings endeavoured to eradicate caste-based discrimination prevalent in the society.
