Kerala Governor's Shawl Catches Fire At Palakkad Event

In Kerala, the incident occurred during the conclusion of the 'shatabdi' (centenary) celebrations of the Sabari Ashram.

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan had a close call on Tuesday when his shawl caught fire while lighting a ceremonial lamp at an event in Thiruvananthapuram. The incident occurred during the conclusion of the 'shatabdi' (centenary) celebrations of the Sabari Ashram.

According to official sources of PTI, as Governor Khan bent down to light the lamp, the end of his shawl came into contact with the flame, igniting it. Fortunately, the fire was swiftly extinguished by those present, and no injuries were reported.

The Governor continued with the event after the brief scare, with attendees relieved that the situation was quickly brought under control.

Meanwhile, Arif Mohammed Khan stated that he would request a report from the state government regarding the actions taken against gold smugglers, who are using illegal funds for anti-national activities. His remarks were in response to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's recent interview, where Vijayan linked hawala money and gold seizures in Malappuram district to extremists from a particular minority community, accusing them of involvement in anti-state and anti-national activities.

On the other hand, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan is set to inaugurate a clinic on October 10 in memory of Dr. Vandana Das, who was tragically stabbed to death while on duty on May 10, 2023. The clinic, established by her parents at Thrikkunnapuzha in Kerala's Alappuzha district, spans 2,000 square feet and has the potential to grow into a hospital in the future. It will operate daily from 9 AM to 6 PM.

Union Minister Suresh Gopi will inaugurate a medical camp at the facility on October 11. Vandana’s father, Mohandas, shared that his daughter had returned home to Thrikkanapuzha to spend her vacation and had expressed a strong desire to treat the poor in both Thrikkanapuzha and Attapadi after completing her MBBS. The clinic is being set up to provide free treatment to the underprivileged, honoring Vandana’s memory.
