Talking about the matter, Union Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy said that issues related to religious conversions are basically the concerns of state governments and that law enforcement agencies take appropriate action whenever such instances of violation are reported.

"Public order and police are state subjects as per the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution and hence, prevention, detection, registration, investigation and prosecution of offences related to religious conversions are primarily the concerns of state governments and Union Territory administrations," he said.

Reddy added that the central government is not planning for an anti-conversion law to be enacted nationwide for curbing interfaith marriages.

"Action is taken as per existing laws by law enforcing agencies whenever instances of violation come to notice," he added.

After Uttar Pradesh brought an anti-conversion law amid demands to take action cases dubbed as "Love-Jihaad" marriages, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and other BJP ruled states also joined the call for making it a legal offence within their territory.
