New Delhi: Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away on Sunday morning due to prolonged illness at the age of 92. Mangeshkar was hospitalised for the past many days and took her last due to multi-organ failure in hospital at 8:12 AM today.

On her demise, political personalities are extending condolences. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express his sorrow. “I consider it my honour that I have always received immense affection from Lata Didi. My interactions with her will remain unforgettable. I grieve with my fellow Indians on the passing away of Lata Didi. Spoke to her family and expressed condolences. Om Shanti.,” Modi wrote on Twitter.

The information was shared by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari via Twitter. Gadkari wrote, “The country's pride and music world's Shirmor Swar Kokila Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar ji's demise is very sad. My heartfelt tribute to the holy soul. His passing is an irreparable loss to the country. She was always an inspiration to all the music seekers.”

The information was later confirmed by the doctors via a press conference. After the confirmation, President Venkaiah Naidu expressed his condolences on Twitter with her picture and wrote, “I am extremely saddened by the demise of Lata Mangeshkar Ji, the Nightingale of Indian Cinema and legendary singer. India has lost its voice in the death of Lata ji, who has enthralled music lovers in India & across the globe with her mellifluous & sublime voice for many decades.”

Cricketer Pragyan Ojha also tweeted, “My heartfelt condolences to the family and the entire nation as we lost our nightingale. Your legacy and voice will remain with us and inspire the generations to come! Om Shanti BharatRatna #LataMangeshkar ji,” with her picture.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam wrote on Twitter, “Lata Mangeshkar @mangeshkarlata is no more. Generations of Indians loved listening to her songs. They remain evergreen. She led a life dedicated to music. Condolences to her family and all lovers of music.”

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal remarked the Indian Nightingale's death as the end of an era. He wrote on Twitter, “The end of an era. India's golden voice, Bharat Ratna, legendary singer, Queen of Melody Lata Mangeshkar ji is no more. I join the nation in mourning for the great soul and offer my heartfelt condolences to the millions of fans of Lata di. Om Shanti. #LataMangeshkar.”

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted, “Not only music industry but India has lost it's soul today. This is truly tragic news that the queen of melodies and Bharat Ratna has left us. Rest in Peace Lata Mangeshkar Ji. Om ShantiFolded hands #LataMangeshkar.”
