Lashkar Terrorist Killed During Encounter After Attack On BSF Convoy In J&K's Kulgam
Kulgam Encounter: Two security forces personnel and two civilians were injured in an encounter in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
New Delhi: A BSF convoy was attacked by militants in Kulgam in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. Security forces cordoned off two Lashkar militants with whom the encounter has been going on overnight. Security forces have killed a Lashkar terrorist. 22 people have been evacuated from the encounter area. The militants attacked when a BSF convoy was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar. The attack also has taken place on the highway. Two jawans and two civilians have been reported injured in the terror attack so far.
Police said militants opened fire on a BSF convoy in Srinagar-Jammu National Highway near Malpora Mir Bazar area of Kulgam around 3 pm. However, the Road Opening Party (ROP) of police and security forces retaliated. Police and the Army immediately rushed to the area and shut it down to ensure that the militants did not get a chance to flee. However, the militants managed to take shelter in a large nearby building.
Operation Underway
"Due to indiscriminate firing by terrorists, a CRPF personnel, an Army jawan, and two civilians were shot and all the injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment," the official said.
Inspector-General of Police, Kashmir, and GOC, Victor Force (of The Army's Rashtriya Rifles) immediately rushed to the encounter site, monitored the situation, and gave further instructions to the field officials. The operation is continuing and it may take time as the building where the terrorists have taken shelter is a huge concrete building and all possible precautions are being taken to reduce the potential damage." Two top officials and other senior officials are still at the encounter site and are monitoring the ongoing operation.
