As the fire accident during a temple festival in Neeleswaram, Kasargod, has left more than 150 people injured, eyewitnesses described hearing a deafening explosion and witnessing a large ball of fire engulfing the area.

The incident occurred around midnight when a fire reportedly broke out at a fireworks storage facility near the temple premises leading to a massive explosion.

According to Manorama, Priyesh, a local youth attending the festival, narrowly escaped the disaster. He and his cousins had been standing near the storage shed minutes before it exploded.

Among those present at the scene was Sreerag, a former patron of the temple’s Yuvajana committee, who had traveled from Bengaluru for the festival. He was busy managing the crowd and clearing the path for the Theyyam when the accident took place.
