J&K: Migrant Labourer Killed, 2 Injured After Militants Hurl Grenade In Pulwama

A migrant labourer died and two others were injured after militants hurled a grenade in Gadoora area of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, ANI reported. The area has been cordoned off and efforts have been launched to nab the militants, said J&K Police.

Militants lobbed a grenade at a tent housing labourers at Gadoora village in Pulwama, a police spokesperson said. The labourers were into manufacturing cotton bedding.

The deceased labourer has been identified as Mohd Mumtaz from Bihar. The injured have been identified as Mohd Arif and Mohd Majbool, residents of Rampor in Bihar. Both are now stable.

"Terrorists hurled grenade on outside labourers at Gadoora area of Pulwama. In this terror incident, one labourer died and two others were injured. Area cordoned off," Jammu and Kashmir police posted on Twitter.

There had been a spurt in attacks on non-local labourers earlier this year in Kashmir but there was a halt in such targeted killings for the past two months.

In June, a migrant labourer from Bihar was killed while another was injured after militants opened fire at them in Budgam district.

Dilkhush Kumar, a resident of Bihar's Arnia, and Rajan, a resident of Punjab, were working at a brick kiln in Magraypora village of Chadoora area when they were shot at by militants.

The attack on the labourers came hours after a 26-year-old bank employee from Rajasthan was shot dead by militants in Kulgam district. Vijay Kumar, a manager with the Elaquai Dehati Bank, was shot dead inside the bank premises. He was just 29 years old.

Two days ago, a Kashmiri Pandit school teacher was gunned down in the same area. 

The back-to-back incidents had prompted Union Home Minister Amit Shah to convene an urgent meeting with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Research and Analysis Wing chief Samant Goel.
