The 34-year-old woman, now identified as Fatima, had been residing in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since July. Pakistani media previously reported that Anju underwent a conversion to Islam upon marrying Nasrullah.
Initially, both Anju and Nasrullah asserted that marriage was not on their agenda, and they planned to return to India by August 20 when Anju's visa expired. Contrary to this claim, the couple married a day after making the announcement.
In August, Pakistan extended Anju's visa by one year, recognising her as Fatima following her conversion to Islam and marriage to Nasrullah.
By September, Nasrullah, Anju's husband, had expressed concerns about her mental well-being, stating that she was "mentally disturbed and badly missing" her children, according to the news agency PTI.
Anju's journey to Pakistan unfolded amidst a prior marriage in Rajasthan's Bhiwadi district. According to media reports, she had informed her husband, Arvind, that she was heading to Jaipur for a short duration. Subsequently, Arvind discovered through the media that she had crossed the border.
Arvind, aware of Anju's relationship with a man in Pakistan, expressed hope for her return despite the challenges. The couple, parents of two children, had married after Anju converted to Christianity to be with Arvind.
