Nagpur Riots Part Of A Conspiracy: Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde

Nagpur Violence: Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde has said that a conspiracy was afoot and encouraged watching "Chhava" to understand Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj's pride.

Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde said that there was a conspiracy behind the Nagpur violence. Till now nearly 80 suspected rioters have been taken into police custody. Moreover, a curfew has been imposed in several areas of Nagpur, Pachpavali, Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Shantinagar, Lakadganj, Sakkardara, Imamwada, Nandanvan, Kapilnagar, and Yashodharanagar.

'Watch Chhava To...'

Shinde said true patriotic Muslims will not support Aurangzeb. "Such kind of a brutal incident was never witnessed before. The protestors are protesting for Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj's pride. Those who support Aurangzeb should read history and watch the movie 'Chhava'," he said.

"The Nagpur incident was unfortunate. Police are investigating if this was a planned conspiracy. Four DCP-level officers were injured in this incident. The CM is reviewing the situation. Police said that many people came from outside," said Eknath Shinde.

"Petrol bombs were also hurled. It is unfortunate that the police were also attacked. Strict action will be taken in this incident. I appeal to all to maintain peace," he said.

'Violence Should Not Happen'

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi says, "Govt is handling the situation very well and such things should not happen... It is not about this party or that party; whoever has done wrong, the Maharashtra government is taking action against them."

What Happened In Nagpur?

Violence erupted in Nagpur after rumours of the Quran being desecrated spread in the city. The violence erupted amid rumours that the Quran was burnt during a protest by a Bajrang Dal demanding the removal of Aurangzeb's tomb.

Another clash broke out in Nagpur's Hansapuri area and several houses and vehicles were vandalised late Monday night as the unrest grew amid demands for the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's tomb in this Maharashtra city.

The city saw tense scenes after Bajrang Dal members staged a demonstration near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in the Mahal area. Soon, rumours of the desecration of the Quran spread which triggered outrage, leaving six people and three policemen injured.

Stones were thrown at police personnel in Chitnis Park and Mahal, following which we had to use tear gas shells.
