Heatwave Alert Extended Till This Date For Delhi, 5 States; Administrations Brace For Rising Mercury

According to IMD, the plains of Northwest India will most likely witness heat wave to severe heat wave conditions during the next five days.

As temperatures continue to soar across the nation, there seems to be no respite from the intense heat wave conditions in several parts of the country. After Najafgarh in the national capital recorded 47.4 degrees Celsius on Monday, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions will continue to pose problems for the people in the northwestern states during the next five days, as per India Meteorological Department's forecast. 

According to IMD, the plains of Northwest India will most likely witness heat wave to severe heatwave conditions during the next five days. Heatwave conditions are very likely to exist over north Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat during next 5 days.

On May 20, heat wave to severe heat wave conditions were observed in many parts over Haryana and Delhi and in some parts of Punjab.

Heat wave conditions observed in some parts over Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and isolated pockets of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

IMD Forecasts Heatwave For Next 5 Days In These Days

"Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions very likely in many or most pockets over Punjab, HaryanaChandigarh-Delhi, West Rajasthan; in some parts of West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan & northwest Madhya Pradesh during May 21-25; in isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh during May 21- 25," IMD stated in its bulletin. 

Isolated pockets of East Uttar Pradesh will very likely exprience heat wave conditions on May 21 and 22.

Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat state, northeast Madhya Pradesh during May 21-25, Vidarbha during May 22-25 and north Madhya Maharashtra during May 22-24 will very likely experience heatwave conditions.

Hot and humid weather  will very likely prevail over Assam during May 21-24; Konkan and Goa, and Odisha on May 21 and 22.

West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan will very likely experience warm night conditions during May 21-25. 

How People Are Dealing With Heatwave In India

People in Mumbai were spotted using umbrellas, covering their heads and faces, and taking to cold drinks and juice to beat the heat as temperature rises across the nation. 

In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, people were seen covering their heads and faces, and taking to cold drinks and juice to beat the heat.

Ravi Prakash Mathur, Director, Medical and Health Department, Rajasthan, commented on the preparedness of the health department in view of the heat wave situation, saying, "...Govt of India had informed us that this time there will be a rise in temperature... We have been training medical officers since December itself and after receiving the alert from Govt of India, we held a high-level meeting through video conferencing and we made an action plan. After that, we trained approximately 750 medical officers, we have also conducted mock drills...our department is fully prepared..."
