G7 Summit: PM Modi Holds Bilateral Talks With French Prez Macron, Discusses Trade, Economy

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron in Hiroshima, Japan, news agency ANI reported. According to MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, both leaders talked about PM Modi's prospective visit to France for Bastille Day and took stock of the advance within the India-France Key Association.
Taking to Twitter, Bagchi stated: "Talks covered a broad range of issues including cooperation in trade & economic spheres; civil aviation; renewables; culture; co-production and manufacturing in defence sector; civil nuclear cooperation. They agreed to expand the partnership to newer domains."

Earlier today, PM Modi held bilateral meetings with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, among others.
On Friday, PM Modi visited Hiroshima for the G7 summit, which marks the beginning of his trip to three countries including Papua New Guinea and Australia.
The G7 is composed of seven global economic powers which include the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, and Japan. The summit, hosted by Japan as the current chair of the group, extended invitations to India and seven other nations.

The nations belonging to the G7 also form part of the G20 coalition. The presidency of the G20 is currently being held by India.
India's priority has been to establish an agreement among all members for a unified statement during the upcoming G20 summit in September. Russia and China are also members of the G20.
