Coronavirus Highlights: Tamil Nadu Govt Extends Covid Lockdown Till June 7

Background

Coronavirus LIVE, May 28, Friday: India's top Covid-19 adviser Dr VK Paul on Thursday said that recipients must stick to the same dose of vaccine as the first one. However, if in case people have got different jabs, there is no cause for concern. The statement has come after 20 villagers in Uttar Pradesh’s Siddharthnagar district were administered a dose of Covaxin after the first dose of Covishield, triggering fear of side-effects among people.

“Two different doses are safe. We are thinking to mix and match (vaccine doses) on a trial basis," the doctor added. The incident took place in Siddharthnagar district’s Badhni Primary Health Care Centre where around 20 people from Audahi Kalan were given Covishiled as their first dose of vaccine but on May 14 they were administered a second dose and were inoculated with Covaxin by the health workers. However, all the people who got a ‘cocktail’ of vaccines are doing fine at the moment.

Germany will start offering coronavirus jabs to children over the age of 12 from June 7, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Thursday. But she stressed that vaccination would not be compulsory and would have no bearing on whether children can attend school or go on holiday.

The European Medicines Agency is expected to approve the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid jab for 12- to 15-year-olds on Friday. It is already authorised in the EU for those over 16.

"Children and young people aged 12 and over will have the chance to book a vaccine appointment from June 7," Merkel said after talks with Germany's regional leaders.
