Background

Breaking News LIVE, October 23, 2021: Hello and welcome to ABP News LIVE Breaking News Blog! Union Home Minister Amit Shah will begin his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir today, this is his first visit to the Union territory after the abrogation of Article 370.

He will review security-related projects in Srinagar.

“Shah will review security and development-related projects in Srinagar on Saturday and he will likely hold a public rally in Jammu on Sunday,” a senior police official said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Besides the security review meeting in Srinagar, he will also interact with members of J&K’s Youth Clubs and inaugurate the first international flight between Srinagar and Sharjah in the UAE.

Ahead of the Union Home Minister’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir, several traffic restrictions have been imposed in Srinagar such as those driving two-wheelers are being subjected to intensive security checks.

In addition, a total of 50 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) teams have been deployed to the union territory for security purposes.

Around 700 people have been detained in the union territory, a few under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA), after the recent killings of non-locals in Jammu and Kashmir, police officials informed.

Meanwhile, a total of 26 detainees are being shifted to the Central Jail of Agra from Jammu and Kashmir under the Public Safety Act 1978. The order has been issued ahead of Amit Shah’s three-day visit to the union territory beginning Saturday, ANI reported.

The important visit comes amid encounters by security forces to neutralise the terrorist elements in the Kashmir valley while 11 lives have been claimed in the recent targetted killings of civilians mostly targetting non-locals.

Besides this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with the beneficiaries and stakeholders of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Swayampurna Goa scheme via video conferencing on Saturday, October 23, at 11 AM. PM Modi's interaction will be followed by an address by him on the occasion. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will also be present on the occasion.

The Atmanirbhar Bharat Swayampurna Goa scheme was launched on October 1 last year with the aim to make the villages self-reliant. This programme is inspired by the Prime Minister's clarion of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The aim of the programme is to focus on agriculture, animal husbandry, youth and adolescent, senior citizens, women and SHGs, tourism, fisheries, natural resources, various schemes and their convergence and general-good governance.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Congress leaders have invited the party's former national president Rahul Gandhi to the three-day Chintan Shibir scheduled to be held in the state in November.

The meeting will draw plans regarding the state assembly elections scheduled to be held next year.

Top leaders of Gujarat Congress had a marathon meeting with the Gandhi scion on Friday in New Delhi.

He held a detailed discussion regarding the upcoming assembly elections in Gujarat which are likely to be held in December next year with all the top leaders. There were also discussions regarding the presidentship of Gujarat Congress as well as the Leader of Opposition Party (LOP) position in Gujarat.

At present, both the positions are vacant, since both leaders holding that have resigned a long back.

The newly appointed Gujarat in-charge Raghu Sharma was also present and he was also briefed about the party position in Gujarat.
