'Entertainment Is Needed In Education But Teachers Are Not Entertainers': Vijender Chauhan At ABP SmartEd Conclave

ABP SmartEd Conclave: Education needs to be taken seriously with an entertainment blend but should not be turned into pure entertainment, said educator Vijender Singh.

There needs to be a balance between entertainment and education in the present times. However, education needs to be serious and there is no space for comedy, feels educator Vijender Singh Chauhan, Associate professor at Zakir Hussain College. "There is a need for a blend of education with entertainment. But it doesn't mean that the teacher should become an entertainer," he said at the ABP Live SmartEd Conclave 2025.

He said that even in the pre-social media era, teachers would connect with students in a light-hearted manner. "But moving away from the domain of discipline to relate with students does not mean that we can start calling education 'entertainment'. There are serious consequences of doing so... This leads to critical thinking taking a beating," he said.

He further said that the development of edtech throws up an expectation from students that educators constantly compete with social media content creators, influencers, and entertainers.

In the panel discussion titled 'Power Of Edutainment', founder of KD Campus Neetu Singh said there was a time when parents would rebuke children if they saw their wards with a comic book or a film magazine. "Parents would constantly tell their kids to study. Today kids have mobile phones in their hands 24 hours. In this era, it's difficult to keep an eye on children 24×7. So it's critical to make education a little entertaining for students otherwise studies would become monotonous for children," she said.

She said she doesn't want students to live in fear of teachers. "Students undergo hormonal changes. We need to understand this and give them a light environment... Failure to do so could affect their education and even affect their married life in future," she said.
