Bengaluru: Hundreds On Streets As BBMP Razes 300 Huts Of ‘Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants’
Hundreds of residents of the make-shift tenthouses in Kariyammana Agrahara and two other places in Bellandur, were eventually forced onto streets.
New Delhi: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike in Bengaluru launched a massive demolition drive on Sunday, forcing at least 300 families, out of homes, assuming that all the labourers residing in the shanties in East Bengaluru are illegal Bangladeshis, reports said.
Hundreds of residents of the make-shift tenthouses in Kariyammana Agrahara and two other places in Bellandur, were eventually forced onto streets.
As per reports, the BBMP pushed out 300 families to the streets which also included those who had come to Bengaluru from flood-ravaged North Karnataka, in search of livelihood.
The body later said that 300 “huts” were demolished as they had come up ob private properties.
The move comes at a time when people across India have been protesting against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
BJP MLA Aravind Limbavali, on January 12 tweeted a video of the settlements and said that few people have taken shelter under illegally constructed sheds located in Kariyammana Agrahara of Bellanduru which is within the jurisdiction of our Mahadevapura Assembly constituency.
“Illegal activities were taking place in those Sheds and the environment was spoiled without cleanliness, hence the area was a site of illegal activity. This was brought to my notice through social media,” he said. “The concerned authorities were instructed to take action against it. Officials are reviewing and taking action. Residents from other areas have settled here, some of them are suspect to be illegal immigrants of Bangladesh,” he stated.Few people have taken shelter under illegally constructed sheds located in Kariyammana Agrahara of Bellanduru which is within the jurisdiction of our Mahadevapura Assembly constituency. 1/3 pic.twitter.com/WjvmWlSE55
