45 Arrested For Ram Navami Violence In Bihar's Nalanda, Sasaram. Police Say 'Situation Under Control'

Bihar police has arrested a total of 45 people for arson, violence and clashes in Nalanda and Sasaram during Ram Navami.

Bihar Ram Navami Violence: The Bihar police has arrested a total of 45 people for arson, violence and clashes in Nalanda and Sasaram during Ram Navami. Giving the information on Twitter, the police department added that situation in Biharsharif of Nalanda and Sasaram of Rohtas is completely under control.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah's Sasaram program has also been cancelled as the local administration did not give the approval for the visit due to the unrest in the region. Now, Shah will only participate in a programme in Bihar's Nawada

Confirming the same Bihar BJP chief Samrat Chaudhary told the media, "Union Home minister Amit Shah was supposed to come to Sasaram for an event. As the Bihar govt imposed Sec 144 we have to cancel the event. How can we hold an event like this?" 

A heavy security personnel deployment continues in Nalanda in the wake of the clash between the two groups.

The police said, "Two FIRs have been registered in Nalanda and Rohtas and 27 and 18 people have been arrested respectively after identifying anti-social elements." 

"Ram Navami procession has been completed in Bihar Sharif and Sasaram. An adequate number of force and magistrate's deputation is going on at both places. Senior officials are camping at the spot. Social media is being monitored." the police added.

Police also urged the residents to not fall prey to any kind of rumours. "General public is requested not to pay heed to rumours. Cooperate with the police and administration in maintaining peace and order," the tweet read.

Naugachia SDPO also said that minor clashes occurred on Friday after idol immersion in Kharik in Naugachia in Bhagalpur district. He said, "There was a minor clash between people from Hindu & Muslim communities after idol immersion. The situation is under control now. Peace is being maintained. A woman was injured."

On Friday, the local administration in Bihar's Sasaram city imposed Section 144 after clashes broke out between two groups during Ram Navami procession. According to the police, people resorted to stone pelting and also vandalised several vehicles and roadside stalls. After receiving information about the clash, police immediately reached the spot to control the situation. 

"There is tension between both groups, and stone pelting also occurred. Some houses were set on fire. The fire is being doused.  The administration came to the spot and calmed them down. The situation is under control now,' said ADM Chandrashekhar, as reported by ANI.

A few police personnel also sustained injuries as they tried to control the situation when clashes broke out between the two groups in the city. 

Violence was also reported from Nalanda's Gagan Diwan area during Ram Navami procession. Stone pelting and arson of vehicles also occurred during the clashes between two groups, reported ANI.
