Heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh for the past few weeks after which a number of incidents of landslides, rockslides and roads getting washed away were reported in the state. The Beas river got swelled up amid heavy rainfall due to which the state faced a flood-like situation for days. Several bridges also collapsed in the flash floods. The historical Panchvaktra bridge in Mandi was washed away on July 10. A portion of the national highway, along the Beas river in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu, was also washed away following massive landslides.
Incessant rain in parts of Himachal has led to the formation of cracks in several houses in the Rampur area of Shimla district, news agency ANI reported. Due to severe rain, more than a hundred houses have developed cracks, according to an official.
Tehsildar of Ramupr Jai Chand stated, “Because of excessive rain, there has been a lot of damage in the Rampur subdivision…more than 100 houses have developed cracks…relief works are being done, we are providing all the necessary items to the people.”
Earlier on Friday night, heavy rain battered the Rampur district of Shimla, causing landslides and closing the Shimla-Kinnaur route (National Route 5) near Jeori. After over 40 hours, the road at Borni Nullah was reopened. Water and power were cut off in numerous areas, and some houses suffered cracks as a result of the rain.
