Leo Review: 'Thalapathy' Vijay Shines In This Lokesh Kanagaraj's Bloody But Not Sweet Action Thriller

LEO Review: Helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Leo starring Vijay, Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Priya Anand, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mansoor Ali Khan, Mathew Thomas, and others released on October 19.

Vikram and Kaithi stand as two masterclasses by Director Lokesh, raising the question of whether the director's latest creation Leo, featuring Vijay, falls within the 'Lokesh Cinematic Universe' (LCU). With these uncertainties lingering, fans eagerly flocked to theaters for the worldwide release of Leo on Thursday (October 19). Helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the movie stars Vijay, Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Priya Anand, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mysskin, Mansoor Alikhan, Mathew Thomas, and others.

The film's music is composed by Anirudh, and it is produced by Seven Screen Studios.

Who Is Leo: The Plot

In Kashmir, Partiban (Vijay) is leading a happy life with his wife Sathya (Trisha), son, and daughter. Partiban is a respected wildlife enthusiast who runs a small coffee shop business, but when his family is targeted, he transforms into a vengeful person and seeks retribution. This leads to a murder, and his reputation resonates throughout India. Partiban is conscious of the danger his family is under due to the incident and is cautious about potential threats from his adversaries.

Under these circumstances, Gangster Antony Das (Sanjay Dutt) looks at Partiban's photo and recalls him as "Leo Das." However, Partiban insists that he is not Leo, and in order to protect him, he persuades Antony Das to consider him as Leo. In this tangled web, who is Leo Das? Why is Antony Das looking for Leo? Why does Partiban portray himself as Leo? "Leo" answers the questions posed.

Leo Review

Leo is undoubtedly a Lokesh movie entirely packed with action sequences. Starting with old songs, references from the movie Master, it skillfully generates suspense in the first half, creating a thrilling momentum in the second half.  Yet again, Vijay reveals why his fans love him as an action hero. Throughout the film, Vijay exhibits creativity, ultimately outsmarting his character.

Next, in the film, Sanjay appears as a convincing villain Antony Das. Lokesh Kanagaraj brilliantly uses key characters played by Trisha, Arjun, Madonna Sebastian, Miska, Sandy Master, Mansoor Ali Khan, Gautam Menon, Priya Anand, Matthew Thomas and Anurag Kashyap to create chaos and chalk out the narrative.

While the highlight of the film is the character of Leo Das, the climax is meticulously crafted with an intense scene that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Similarly, the scenes with Trisha would have been better if they had created an impact. The extended dialogue exchanges between the two in the second half fail to evoke any substantial emotions.

Furthermore, the mesmerizing music by Anirudh, intense fight sequences and Manoj's cinematography were all on point, if the narrative was packaged well with more depth without rushing, Leo's character could have been portrayed with even more intensity.
