The best time to visit Gangtok is from March to April and October to November, avoiding the rainy season due to potential roadblocks. Although Gangtok lacks an airport, the nearest one is Bagdogra in West Bengal, 135 km away, with a travel time of 3 to 5 hours to reach the city.

Yuksom, located in western Sikkim, is the starting point for several treks into the Himalayas and the majestic Kanchenjunga. This former capital of Sikkim, known as the ‘Meeting Place of Three Lamas,’ is celebrated for its pristine beauty and rustic charm. Home to the oldest monastery in Sikkim, Yuksom is a haven of tranquillity and natural allure. The best times to visit are from March to June and September to October when the weather is most pleasant.

Tsomgo Lake, also known as Changu Lake, is a stunning glacial lake located 38 km from Gangtok at an altitude of 12,400 feet, making it one of the highest lakes in India. In winter, the lake freezes, while in summer, its turquoise waters reflect the surrounding peaks and azure skies. The lake is considered sacred, and its waters are believed to have medicinal properties. Visitors can enjoy trekking, ice skating, and yak rides during the winter. The lake also hosts the Guru Poornima festival, adding to its cultural significance.

4. Nathula Pass

Nathula Pass, a historic part of the ancient Silk Road, connects Sikkim with Tibet at an altitude of 4,310 metres above sea level. As one of the highest motorable passes in the world, Nathula offers breathtaking views and a unique glimpse into the region's history. The pass is open to Indian citizens with prior permission from the tourism department but is closed to foreign nationals. It remains closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays.

The climate is moderate throughout the year, but the best time to visit is from May to July. Lachung, a quaint mountain village in northern Sikkim, sits at an altitude of 8,610 feet. Its scenic beauty, highlighted by the Lachung Chu River and Lachung Gompa, makes it a popular destination. Despite being a well-visited region, Lachung retains its charm and allure. However, it becomes inaccessible during the monsoon and winter due to heavy rainfall and snow. British botanist Joseph Dalton Hooker once described Lachung as the 'most picturesque village in Sikkim.’

7. Ravangla

Nestled between Maenam and Tendong Hills, Ravangla is a scenic town in southern Sikkim. Known as a birdwatcher's paradise, it is home to rare and endangered bird species. Visitors can spot dark-throated thrush, verditer flycatchers, blue whistling thrush, and more. Ravangla also features temples, monasteries, tea gardens, and adventure sports, making it a diverse destination. The weather is volatile, so carrying a raincoat or umbrella is advisable.
