From Yumthang Valley To Pelling: Explore Lesser-Known Places In Sikkim To Experience Snowfall

Sikkim, is a serene gem in India's North-Eastern region that transforms into a captivating winter haven as the colder month set in. Located in the eastern Himalayas, this place's mountainous landscapes, snow peaks, and lakes offer a mesmerizing view and calm atmosphere for the travellers.

From late November to early March, this state is enveloped in a blanket of snow, transforming its landscapes into a breathtaking winter wonderland. Some places in sikkim covered in snow and serenity during winters, make it an ideal retreat for those who seek nature's wonders, far from the crowd.

Yumthang Valley:

More commonly known as the Valley of Flowers, Yumthang Valley however takes quite a different picture in the winter season, lining it with snow. The valley, also located at an altitude of 3,564 meters, presents scenes of white pastures, icy streams, and ranges of hills extremely far off. The geothermally heated water found in the hot spring provides relief from the chill to the environment.

Also referred to as Changu Lake, the Tsomgo Lake is located at an altitude of 3,753 meters, making it a favourite place amongst tourists who wish to see snowfalls in Sikkim. The lake is enclosed with mountains of snow, and during winters, the lake is frozen, providing an eye-catchy sight to behold. The tourists can geotag the lake by also going for rides on yaks and snoop into some snow activities.

Located not far from Yumthang Valley, Zero Point is the highest point in Sikkim up to which access is possible, standing at 4700 meters above sea level. Besides, the place is snowed out in the winter season and is rated amech lap mountain, dwarfed by clear skies and the much active snowfall, making it very attractive for real winter hunters.

Though Pelling does not get heavy showers of snow, it offers stunning views of Mt. Kanchenjunga covered in snow. The town is good at providing facilities and services as a base from which one can visit the adjacent snow areas and also engage in winter trekking and sightseeing activities.
