Happy Durga Puja 2022 Wishes: This year, Navratri began on September 26, a day after Mahalaya, while Durga Puja begins today, October 1 and will end on October 5.
Happy Durga Puja 2022 Wishes: Durga Puja celebrations have begun. The festival celebrated from the sixth day of Sharad Navratri is also known as Sharadiya and it honours Goddess Durga's "homecoming" as devotees believe She descends on Earth along with her children — Lakshmi, Saraswati, Ganesh and Kartikeya — during this time. This year, Navratri began on September 26, a day after Mahalaya, while Durga Puja begins today, October 1 and will end on October 5.
The five days of Durga Puja are Shasthi, Saptami, Ashtami, Navami, and Dashami, which is also called Vijayadashami as the Goddess killed buffalo demon Mahishasura on this day. And thus, the festival celebrates the victory of good over evil.
What Happens On Shasthi?
According to tradition, Shasthi is the day when the face of the Durga idol is unveiled, marking the first day of the celebrations. From 'kalprarambha' and 'bodhon' to 'amontron' and 'adhibash', several rituals are performed on this day. While 'kalprarambha' marks the beginning of Durga Puja, unveiling of the idol's face, a rtual performed in the evening, is called 'bodhon'. 'Amontron' means invite, a ritual that involves a formal invitation to the Goddess to stay among the mortal beings during her visit home, and 'adhibash' is a ritual that sanctifies Her stay in the Durga mandap.
