Wayanad Student Death: Kerala Govt Suspends 3 Employees Over 'Delay' In Handing Over Details To CBI

Pinarayi Vijayan government took action a day after facing widespread criticism from the opposition Congress and BJP.

The Kerala government suspended three Home Department employees alleging "dereliction and unresponsiveness" in handing over documents and information to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the probe into the recent demise of a veterinary student in Wayanad.

The three suspended employees include staff Anju, who serves as an assistant, VK Bindu, a section officer and VK Prasantha, deputy secretary. The suspension order was issued by Home Secretary Bishwanath Sinha.

Pinarayi Vijayan government took action a day after facing widespread criticism from the opposition Congress and BJP. They alleged that the government had not yet provided necessary files to the CBI, despite assurances from the Chief Minister weeks ago regarding a central agency probe into the death of Sidharth JS.

In addition to the opposition's criticism, the family of the deceased student also criticized the government. They alleged that the government intentionally delayed the CBI probe by withholding essential files and potentially destroying evidence.

The 20-year-old student was found hanging in the bathroom of the college hostel in Wayanad district on February 18. His family and friends claimed that he had been subjected to ragging by fellow students, including members of the CPI (M)'s student wing, SFI.

Amidst a significant political uproar in the state following the incident, the state government declared on March 9 its decision to transfer the case to the CBI.
