Watch: Alappuzha Resort Demolition Begins After SC Order To Raze It Over CRZ Violations

The top court in January 2020 ordered that the resort is to be razed down for Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) violations. The demolition was delayed due to the Covid pandemic

The demolition of the Kapico Resort -- comprising 54 villas that are spread over 6,000 square feet -- at Panavalli Nediyathuruth in Kerala's Alappuzha, began on Thursday as per the Supreme Court's order. The top court in January 2020 ordered that the resort is to be razed down for Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) violations. The demolition was delayed due to the Covid pandemic.

"Building owners are bearing cost of demolition. As per records, 2.9396 hectares of land encroached by resort owners, & govt acquired the land a week before. All 54 villas are going to be demolished. The public fund won't be used for it," Alappuzha Dist Collector VR Krishna Teja said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
