Kerala Oppn Boycotts Assembly As Speaker Rejects Motion On Corruption Claims Against CM's Daughter
Speaker A N Shamseer dismissed the notice, citing Rule 53 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
The Opposition, United Democratic Front (UDF), led by Congress, boycotted the assembly proceedings in Kerala on Friday. The boycott followed Speaker A N Shamseer's rejection of the adjournment motion notice to discuss the investigation into the defunct IT company associated with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter.
Soon after the question hour, Congress MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan moved an adjournment motion notice to discuss the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO)'s inquiry into Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter Veena Thaikkandiyil and her company, Exalogic Solutions Private Limited. However, Speaker A N Shamseer dismissed the notice, citing Rule 53 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
After staging a walkout, LoP of Kerala Assembly VD Satheesan said, "We brought out serious allegations against Kerala CM in the Assembly. Especially the scam involving his daughter. Chief Minister didn't even turn up today to the Assembly as he knows we are about to bring this issue today. We asked for an adjournment motion. But the ruling party Legislators did not allow us to speak since it's an allegation against their CM."
