The demise of the two-time chief minister was announced by his son, Chandy Oommen, through a heartfelt Facebook post. At the age of 79, Chandy had been battling cancer and was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bengaluru.

The mortal remains of the late Oommen Chandy were transported from Bengaluru to Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday afternoon, July 18. The body was then placed at the Durbar Hall of the state secretariat, allowing the public to pay their final respects.
On July 19, the body was moved in a solemn procession from Thiruvananthapuram to Puthuppally.
At Puthuppally, the remains of the departed leader will be kept at Thirunakkara Ground in Kottayam, providing an opportunity for the public to pay homage. Later in the evening, the body will be taken to Chandy's residence in Puthuppally.
The funeral services, a poignant moment that will mark the final farewell to Oommen Chandy, will take place at the Puthuppally church near Kottayam on Thursday, July 20, in the afternoon.
Oommen Chandy's demise marks the end of an era in Kerala's political landscape, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for years to come.
Chandy's political career was marked by notable achievements and significant positions. He served as the chief minister of Kerala twice, with a total tenure of seven years from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2011 to 2016. Furthermore, Chandy held crucial portfolios such as Minister of Labour, Home, and Finance in various governments led by K Karunakaran and A K Antony. He also assumed the role of Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly.
Representing the Puthuppally constituency, Chandy's unparalleled dedication saw him serving as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for over half a century, setting a record for the longest tenure.
