Kerala: Heavy Rain Floods Several Parts Of Alappuzha, Downpour Lashes Thiruvananthapuram

As per the India Meteorological Department, Thiruvananthapuram is expected to experience a cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers on Friday.

Incessant rains in Kerala has affected the routine lives of people in the state as it caused flooding in some areas. Heavy rainfall in several parts of Alapuzzha district has caused flooding and people were seen using boats to commute from one place to another amid waterlogging. Capital city Thiruvananthapuram also recieved rainfall on Friday and as per the India Meteorological Department the city is expected to experience a cloudy sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers today.

The rainfalls have been causing inconvinience to the people. On Thursday, IMD issued a red alert in Idukki district and an orange alert in six districts. Educational institutes remained shut in 11 districts in view of rainfall.

The heavy downpour resulted in a spate of Kakkad river. As a result, water entered the residential areas of Kannur city. 

Kakkad River overflows and enters residential areas in Kannur city due to heavy rainfall here. Makeshift barricading put up to discourage people from using the routes that are flooded, reported ANI on Thursday. 

Some of the houses in Kottayam also faced waterlogging on Thursday. “A few residential areas in Kottayam city face waterlogging following incessant rainfall here; Kodoor river nears overflow. IMD has issued a Yellow alert for the district today,” the news agency stated. 

As per the weather department on Thursday,  heavy rainfall (7- 11 cm in 24 hours) to very heavy (12-20 cm in 24 hours) was very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.  

On the other hand, IMD also said heavy rainfall (7- 11 cm in 24 hours) was very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad on Thursday.

The IMD issued a warning stating that  squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-45 Kmph gusting to 55 Kmph is likely to prevail over Kerala coast
