Centre Accords Z+ Security To Kerala Guv Arif Khan After He Accuses Police Of Laxity During SFI Protest

The announcement came a few hours after Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan initiated an impromptu sit-in protest on the roadside in Nilamel, Kollam district on Saturday.

Hours after Kerala Governor Arif Khan took to stage a sit-in protest after Student Federation of India (SFI) activists confronted him with a black flag protest, Kerala Raj Bhavan PRO said that Union Home Ministry informed them that Z+ Security cover of CRPF would be extended to the Governor and Kerala Raj Bhavan.

Taking to X, PRO, Kerala Raj Bhavan, said, "Union Home Ministry has informed Kerala Raj Bhavan that Z+ Security cover of CRPF is being extended to the Governor and Kerala Raj Bhavan."

Deviated from standard office protocols, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan initiated an impromptu sit-in protest on the roadside in Nilamel, Kollam district on Saturday. The protest was sparked over the police's alleged failure to prevent a black flag demonstration by SFI. The Governor also demanded stringent action against those who raised banners and slogans against him in Nilamel.

“If not, call the Prime Minister. You (pointing his fingers at the police officers present there) are responsible for this, I will not go from here. You are giving them (the protesters) protection. You are breaking the law. If not you (the police), who will uphold the law,” asked a fuming Khan, as per a report on IANS.

Khan remarked that if a similar incident had occurred while the Chief Minister was passing by, the police would have promptly arrested the protesters.

After nearly 90 minutes, the police notified him that a case had been filed against the protesters on non-bailable charges, and they had been taken into custody. Subsequently, the Governor rose and departed for the program where he was the chief guest.
